Coloring book preview #1

Recently I began work on a coloring book, making one page a week.

Part of my mission for this project was to practice my skill at line drawing. I’ve since learned that designing a coloring book is an art unto itself. The best coloring pages have simple, appealing shapes that are small enough so that coloring them in doesn’t become tedious. Stripes and spots are a good way to break up large areas.

My current plan is to print the coloring book sometime this spring. Meanwhile, please feel free to print & color these sample pages!

Coloring is like meditation for me, and I’ve watched children fall into a trance when they’re coloring. There’s something soothing about it, something mysteriously satisfying – the final product doesn’t even matter.

Coloring isn’t just for kids, or for artists. Try it the next time you need to clear your head. Art therapy works wonders!

That middle fish and me are going to be best friends. He knows how to have a great time.

That’s a leopard shark! And yes, they’re the life of the party.
